What Causes Oven Power Trip Problem

Oven Power Trip is definitely one of the most annoying thing we encountered. Having all the food, ingredient, dough….. ready. And the oven failed on us!

Is important to know there are 2 different type of Oven Power Trip Issues commonly encountered

First (the more common one) ELCB Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker Oven Power Tripping

  • Usually caused by prolong unused
  • Aging
  • Faulty oven parts
  • Wiring issues

Main Circuit Breaker Oven Power Tripping

  • Incoming Power issue
  • Phase to Neutral Power Trip
  • Under capacity wire
  • Wall socket or power plug issue

Built-in oven consumed up to 2000W is one of the highest powered home appliances. Therefore it has to be properly earthed/grounded to prevent any hazardous electrical shock.

  • A very common issue in Singapore 
  • if the oven has not been used for an extended period of time >6 months.
  • Power tripping due to excessive moisture built up in the oven over a period of time.

Oven Power Trip Diagnostics and Repair

Steps to remove excessive Heating Element moisture in your oven:

#1. Turn off most of your home appliances (especially refrigerator). Constant power shut down may damage your appliances.

#2. Set your oven temperature/thermostat to the lowest temperature. Around 50C

#3. Turn the function to the top and bottom heating.

#4. If no power trip (good!) slowly increases the temperature to 70C. If power trip go back to #2

#5. Try to slowly push the temperature up to 180C. If there is no power trip, switch the function to fan mode and top grill subsequently.

If the oven doesn’t trip after a few tries. You have successfully removed excess moisture in your oven! Well done!

  5. Hi, do I need to leave a small opening gap when trying to heat up my oven due to moisture? Previously, I have engaged someone to repair my oven power trip and he has taught me similar to what you stated above but to leave the oven door with a small opening gap. Thanks in advance.
