I believe many of us have heard of the horror stories of technicians and electricians overcharging at horrendous rates. I sincerely think 99% of the electrical and technicians are honest and reliable – an honest job for an honest day pay. Let’s not let a few bad apples damage the professionalism of this trade. There are definitely scammers in all trade but there are ways we can educate and inform ourselves to be more vigilant.
#1 Rule Always ask for the callout charge
If there is no confirmation in sms/text/whatsapp on the callout fee. Customers do reserve the rights not to pay for the callout fee.
#2 Confirm the price before any repair is carried out
Customers always have the rights not to proceed with the repair if they find the repair cost too high.
#3 Engage the company with good track record
Nothing beats a company with good track record and through recommendation.
Who should I call? Electricians or Repair Technicians
When there is a power trip. 90% of most people first instinct is to call the Electricians. Yes, the good news is that Electricians will be able to identify and pinpoint the issue.
The bad news is 100% of the Electricians won’t be able to fix or rectify the problem. Because they are not equipped with the knowledge and spare parts to fix your appliances issue.
What to do when there is a power trip?
#1 Stay Calm
#2 Try to restore the power at home. There is usually 2 main circuit breakers for each household. One distribution board inside your house and the 2nd incoming circuit breaker along your corridor or electrical riser.
#3 Try to isolate the the problem by turning off all the electrical appliances and unplugging all the sockets from the power outlet.
#4 If you still unable to identify the issue. You can contact us for tele-support or contact your electrician to identify the root cause
Common Misconception regarding Power Trip
When there is a power trip – very highly your circuit breaker is NOT faulty. Because the main function of the circuit breaker is to break the circuit. A faulty circuit breaker is one that is unable to break the circuit instead.
It is safe to remove the Earth or Grounding wire to prevent the appliances from tripping.
If it is safe to remove the Earth and Grounding wire why the appliances manufacturer install the Earth and Grounding Wire
Earth and Grounding wire is to protect us from electrical shock and is essential to have the earth protection for high current appliances like oven, kettle, water heater, air-conditioner, fridge.

James is a very accomplished and knowledgeable electrician. To add to that he is extremely polite, super friendly and easy going. Our oven in our new apartment quit on us because of disuse, James was able to zero in on the issue in mins and was able to come fix it right away. My oven tripped, not the 1st time but the 3rd times. Up set with the company that I bought the oven from, decided to contact James.
James is a reliable and friendly guy who knows his job well. Gave me the choice of either replaced the parts or do a simple repair. Chosen to replace the parts after he explained the pros and cons.
James spent more than an hour to dismantle and fixed the parts, he is patience and knowledgeable. Well done and highly recommended.
